This stamped aluminum tray is 13-1/2″ in diameter and about 3/4″ deep, with a grape vine and leaves design and fluted edge. It’s slightly heavier weight than some of the trays of seen of this type. The back has a hammered finish and the words “Designed Aluminum” stamped on. There are no other markings.
Trays like these were popular in the 1950’s as wartime factories retooled to make inexpensive consumer goods for returning GI’s to furnish their new, modern homes. Shiny aluminum was a popular material prior to plastics for its mold-ability, durability, light weight and low cost. A tray like this was probably used to serve cocktails or iced beverages.
